These metal lamp shades are made in Senegal.
ENDA, Environment and Development Action in the Third World, is an international non-profit organisation based in Dakar. Its primary aim is fighting poverty and working for civil society and sustainable development. The organisation is active in 21 locations in the world, collaborating with grassroots groups.
ENDA Ecopole is located at the heart of a popular area of Dakar in a former gas factory. Its activities range from organising information campaigns and cultural events to pedagogical workshops and research on traditional medicine. It also runs a programme for training young people in various crafts: making items of recycled tins and and steel wire, ceramics, sewing, knitting and dyeing etc.
Many young people taking part in the programme have left school early and lack formal training. With the aid of ENDA Ecopole, they can acquire a skill, make some money and learn to be responsible citizens.
Our lampshades have been made during one of these workshops and any profit from the sales goes straight to ENDA Ecopole.
